My Students

My students are a group of eager first graders at a wonderful public school in the largest urban school district in the state, located in the heart of the city. We have a diverse student body made up of neighborhood kids, as well as transfers that seek out a coveted spot in our school. As the only public school in our city that is not Title I, meaning we don't qualify for additional state funds, we rely on families, the community, and DonorsChoose to help equip our classrooms.

My students value education and look forward to coming to school every day, excited to find out what each new day has in store for them.

They enjoy our calm, inviting, and child-centered classroom where they participate in creative, hands-on activities that stimulate their curious minds. My students develop a love of learning and a desire to always do their best, qualities I cherish as a teacher.

My Project

Flexible seating allows students to be able to move from traditional work spaces to other areas in the classroom that best meet their needs for learning. First graders need opportunities to move around the room and make themselves comfortable to maximize their attention span and learning.

The products I have selected will offer my students additional options and choices for learning in our classroom.

The lap desks are portable, which will give my students the opportunity to move to an area of the room that will enable them to collaborate with others or simply get to a place where they can free themselves from distractions to give their best efforts. The new rug and soft chairs will provide yet another area of the room that will be cozy and inviting where students can go to work.

I know how simple things like a change of scenery or seating arrangement can positively affect students' attitudes and effort. I am excited for my students to have an opportunity to learn in ways where they feel most comfortable!
