My Students
I teach English to four classrooms of energetic and inquisitive 8th graders. As much as they love learning about the world around them - both past and present - getting them to use literature to gain that information is more difficult. Most of my students are reading below grade level and become overwhelmed when it comes time to read.
When faced with difficult tasks, it is best to make the students feel as comfortable as possible.
Physically and academic comfort allows them to take more risks.
My Project
Learning is not one size fits all. It is well known that students have different learning styles, but it is also important to take into account that students thrive better in different learning environments. It is important to acknowledge and adapt to the diversities in their learning
The choice and comfort that is allowed by flexible seating will help to strengthen the sense of community and belonging in the classroom, which will set us on the track to success.
By adding more flexible seating options to my classroom, I am allowing students the ability to find seating that will set them up for success. When they are more comfortable with where they are working, it will increase their focus and productivity.
