My Students

Second graders walk into a classroom, full of excitement, ready and eager to learn new things. I welcome my students every day with "Good morning, I'm so delighted to see all of you!".

I teach at a Title I-funded school in New York where 98 percent of our students receive free lunch.

When students enter my classroom, they are supported, encouraged, and motivated to reach their fullest potential by being in an environment that makes everyone feel safe and comfortable to be themselves.

My Project

My students need comfy floor seats and headphones in their mindfulness area, within our classroom. These floor seats will provide a warm, comfortable place for students to go to when they need to practice mindfulness exercises. The chairs can be laid flat if they need to lay down for breathing and mindfulness exercises or they can sit in them as they do them. The headphones can be used with their iPads or school iPads so that they can be sanitary and tune out the outside stimuli of the classroom. Often it helps to draw your feelings and they can use the whiteboards for that while using the base ten blocks to track of their counting as they count their breaths. The cleansing materials will help keep the area clean and sanitary.

The headphones will allow them to use their iPads with their mindfulness exercises on them without disturbing other students and will also allow them to focus more deeply on restoring their mental health through breathing exercises while they sit or lay on the floor seating using these mindfulness tools and then sanitize themselves and the area to know that their space is clean and they won't have any mental anxiety about catching COVID-19.

They need an inviting space to encourage them to spend time focussing on their mindfulness exercises when they become overstimulated or need a break and to focus on their on mental health. Please help me create this mindfulness space in my classroom and give my students a warm and inviting safe space with the tools they need in our classroom.
