This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are enthusiastic, clever, energetic, unique learners on the autism spectrum (ASD). Although daily challenges such as seating and sustaining attention continue to affect their learning, they have become tolerant of virtual learning with parent support. Like many people on the spectrum, my students have sensory hyper/hyposensitivity, which can be alleviated by proper sensory seating.
Individualized accommodations and alternative seating choices enhance my student's unique temperaments and learning needs.
Although their distinct learning styles are met on a one-to-one basis using various strategies, their awareness of their peers and their personalities have contributed to continued engagement during our virtual learning.
My Project
I am requesting wobble seats, balance ball chairs and a MOLUK Bilibo. The alternative seating will allow my students to attend to instruction, work independently, and have better participation during non-preferred activities. They must have these as we return to in-person learning on campus. In addition, as a first-year teacher in a new classroom that was supplied with typical tables and chairs, it is essential that my students have seating that provides sensory support and helps attend to their learning.
With this type of seating, my students can focus on learning and perform their best.
In addition, they will be able to choose the most suitable seat to meet their sensory needs at the time. Providing them with various choices will decrease frustration and allow multiple students to share the same experience and academic success.
