My Students

I have 130 6th grade students from all different socioeconomic backgrounds. We are a Title I school where over 75% of the students receive free or reduced meals. Creating a safe and comfortable classroom is important to me and will greatly impact my students.

As 6th graders some of my students have the need to move around more and most learn better in a comfortable environment.

I want to do all that I can to boost my students learning. My struggling students deserve an inviting and different type of classroom arrangement that will ultimately help them thrive. Too many times, students who have difficulty learning are apprehensive attending a fundamental class; therefore, I want them to look forward to come to class each day to a functional, inviting, and effective classroom environment. In addition, I want to accommodate my middle school students who have diverse needs such as my fidgety students, my kinesthetic and tactile inclined students, my attention deficit students, even my "traditional students."

My Project

Having flexibility in seating choices allows students to learn in the environment that works best for them. During times of independent work my students will have the chance to choose the area that works best for them. Currently my students are very limited on the type of seating they can choose from, traditional desks with attached chairs or the floor.

My expectation is for these additions to enhance student learning and motivate them to excel.

The products that I have selected will help my students by giving them additional seating options to make more effective learning choices. The standing desks will give a great option for those students who currently stand next to their desk to do their work. The balance ball chair and stools will be a great option for those students that have the need to wiggle around more than others. And finally the bean bag chairs will give my students an alternative to sitting on the floor.
