Seating for Success in Kindergarten

My students would benefit from flexible seating. They will be burning more calories, using up excess energy, improving metabolism, increasing motivation and engagement, creating a better oxygen flow to the brain, and improving posture.

My Students

I have 19 wonderful kindergarten scholars in my class this year!

They are a group of young children who are ready to be molded and inspired.

They need encouragement and motivation to help them become the best learners they can possibly be!

They all receive free breakfast and lunch. Several of them have never been in school before, and are desperately trying to catch up to their classmates.

Some of the stories of their home lives are terribly sad. It is hard to believe that they are 5 years old and have experienced so much in their little lives already.

My Project

"Seating for Success" will give my kindergarten scholars the opportunity to get up and move to other areas of the room on a more frequent basis. They will be able to move to fun seating, instead of just traditional chairs. I anticipate that they will be more engaged and more excited to learn each day!

Children who are given chance to have movement breaks within the classroom have more on-task behavior, with the most significant improvement seen in students who are least on-task in the beginning.

This seating will be an additional reminder to the scholars about the importance of movement in kindergarten, as we are always taking the time to stand, stretch, sing and move.
