Seating for Active Students

My students need different options for seating to help with ADHD issues. Having a swivel chair helps with that movement in an up and down fashion.

My Students

My students are 21st century students. They are learning to become problem solvers and thinkers.

Our middle school is moving towards classrooms that are student centered instead of teacher centered meaning students guide the learning, not teachers.

They just become facilitators.

Our school is located in an inner city and we have a diverse population that we are trying to reach. We have students who come from wealthy homes to students that come from very low income. It is quite a challenge to reach them all.

My Project

A lot of the students that I have in my classes have ADHD and feel the need to constantly move. I have found that having swivel chairs in my classroom helps kids with movement. They are able to stay in their seat yet move and not get into trouble. I have noticed a huge spike in student awareness in the classroom since I have been using alternative seating. Students are more focused and willing to learn. Students who would get in trouble for getting up and going to the pencil sharpener 50 times and bothering 5 students while going are staying in their seats and focusing on the work.
