My Students

I teach a wide range of students in my language arts classes. My students are amazing young men and women that come from diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds. Many have special needs, including ADD, autism, anxiety, and sensory issues. My children love to learn and enjoy collaborating on projects and working with their peers.

My goal is to provide a warm, loving, comfortable environment that promotes risk-taking, exploration, and collaboration.

My kids deserve the best classroom environment to learn in.

My Project

Flexible seating allows students to take charge of their learning and make the choices that work best for them. During independent work times, they choose a location in the classroom that works for them. Currently, my students are choosing to work in a variety of locations in our room such as: at different tables, sitting on rugs with clipboards, or sitting on a yoga ball chair or wobble stools. I'd like to have a few more options available since I do have 30 students each period. Making sure students are comfortable is an essential component in motivating them. I have noticed amazing differences in my students when they are given a choice in their seating.

The books I am choosing reflect the diverse population of my students and their families.

Every student book that is placed in my library is treated with love and care, and the students are thankful for the opportunities to read those books. Students will be able to choose books, which will help them continue to enjoy independent reading time.

In addition, I am requesting some materials that will make life easier for some of my students with ADD, Austism, and some sensory issues. Some of those students (and many others) enjoy soft music to settle us and oils used in my diffusers to make our room soothing. I am asking for a bluetooth speaker for our music and more oils for our diffusers. In addition, brightly colored paper , fidgets, earbuds, as well as dry erase sheets can be used by all of my students in my language arts classes.
