This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am an inner city kindergarten teacher in Illinois. My school is centered in a community deemed as low socioeconomic with a high population of English Language Learners and students with special needs. I am privileged because my students are enthusiastic and eager learners that are excited to learn new things.

My students enter the classroom every day energized, ready to learn, and thrilled for what is in store for them that day.

I want to make sure I am helping in laying the foundation for them to be successful at school and in everyday life.

My Project

For many of my students’ kindergarten is their first experience in a school environment. Organization is very important. Students need to be prepared every day and seat sacks will help them with organizing and make things easily accessible. The seat sacks sit on the back of students’ chairs and it will help them to keep their supplies such as their folders and books within reach.

It will also give each student a feeling of independence and will help them take pride in their work and materials.

They will also use the seat sacks to store their culturally diverse non-fiction magazines, books, and journals. This will allow students to have multiple opportunities throughout the day to read and write.

My students will really appreciate and benefit from the seat sacks. They will have a new love and respect for their materials.
