This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to keep things simple and provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences. This year I have the pleasure of working with two classes. One class is made up of 6th and 7th grade students, many of which are first year English Language Learners. The second class is a 6th grade dual language class. Both sets of students are unique individuals with a passion to learn.
Despite their personal struggles, the language, cultural barriers and transitional housing challenges, my students have a great desire to succeed.
There are 52 amazing students in my 6th grade math class who come from bilingual households and receive free or reduced price lunch. The school serves grades 6-8 and provides rigorous academics, fantastic teachers and a safe learning environment. Our goal is to prepare our students for success in high school and college.
My Project
This project will allow students the access to new resources and material that they can use and reuse. There are many great resources that I would like my students to have access to, such as vocabulary word game cards and math card games. With a laminating machine and pouches, students will be able to keep and reuse those resorces to continue learning.
