My Project

Equipping all students with the skills to succeed both inside and outside the classroom has always been my goal as a K-6 STEM Lab teacher. As we have gone back to in-person learning this school year, it has become increasingly necessary to address social-emotional learning (SEL).

Nurturing these social and emotional skills through intentional STEAM challenges and activities in my classroom helps students take responsibility for their actions and make good choices in academia and beyond.

My students are highly engaged when given activities and challenges that utilize STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) to invest in their SEL as it helps to nurture a positive culture within our classroom environment. These STEAM projects are always conducted in a team environment, and this allows for many opportunities to address both students' positive and negative emotions.

I always make it a point after our STEAM challenges to include time for reflection as it is so important for students to look back and think about what was difficult or even what they enjoyed most about the challenge. They can look at the strengths they brought to the team as well as things that they need to work on improving.
