Help me give my students sculpting clay to creatively explore symbolism following our novel study.

My Project

My students love to create with sculpting clay, so I weave clay into the curriculum as often as I can. In ELA, we will be exploring symbolism and theme. After defining symbolism and modeling universal symbols, students will explore the symbols in the novel and their meanings.

As a culminating, hands-on activity, students will use the sculpting clay to create a symbol of themselves.

First, they will reflect on what makes them unique. Then, they will use the sculpting clay to create a clay symbol that represents themselves.

After that, they will write an explanation about the symbol and why they chose it.
