Scratching the Surface of Electronic Learning

Help me give my students a Microsoft Surface to create a user friendly catalog system for my classroom library. It will also allow budding authors to create illustrations for their work.

My Students

I currently teach in a Title I School where about 2/3 of our students are on free/reduced lunch, and many of our students come from single-parent households with little to no resources at home to help with their education. Education used to be about a teacher teaching every subject the same way, and you either learned or you were lost forever. Children being able to read a variety of books was once a rarity, but now at their fingertips.

My 30 wonderful students, are eager to read books of their interest. I've provided my class with a library stocked with books of every interest level, but now they have to sort through them to find a good fit. I need a system to catalog my classroom library, but which will also allow the students to easily find books of their interest.

My Project

With a Microsoft Surface in the classroom, possibilities are endless. In the classroom library, the device will not only allow students to search for a book by title or reading level, but also by interest level. This will help students find books that best suit their interests, creating a love of reading. Students will be able to further enhance learning by accessing educational podcasts to on certain topics to complete research.

Students will be able to tap into their creativity with the Microsoft Surface.

Budding authors will be able to illustrate their work for publication. These are experiences that will enhance the students' learning experience.
