My students need microscopes and slides to be successful in the understanding of the nature of science. We currently do not have any. The K'Nex kits develop inquiry skills as our school works toward STEM certification.
My students are a representation of our multicultural nation. They are bright eager learners thirsting for knowledge that is achieved through hands-on discoveries. Our school is a Title 1 school where 68% of our students receive free and/or reduced lunch. Our families speak a wide variety of primary languages at home. Our school family represents at least 10 different languages. Many of our students are English Language Learner students as well as Exceptional Education students.
The desire of my heart is to provide my deserving students quality instructional STEM related material that provides the opportunity for hands-on discovery.
This project will offer my students the use of materials to enrich and stimulate learning. STEM related materials assist to engage students in areas that standard textbooks simply cannot. My students are curious learners and the material that I am requesting will help to fuel the spark of interest to create a lifelong love of learning.
My Project
Help us to see beyond what is found in textbooks and library books. We want the hands-on experience of looking through the lens of a microscope and identifying parts of cells which cannot be seen with our own eyes. The experience of participating in a lab to view the cells that make up a fish scale for the first time is inspiring. When children discover first hand that cells exist, even though they cannot be seen with the naked eye, they learn to investigate and question all that they previously believed to be true.
Six quality microscopes and slides for the class to share during labs and experiments would enhance the learning and inspire a profession in the sciences.
The K'Nex kits will develop the exploratory STEM skills that build future leaders.
Inquiry and discovery through the use of scientific tools, such as the microscope, expose students to a greater understanding of the nature of science. We will use the STEM materials in class to promote scientific investigation and critical thinking. Our future leaders of tomorrow are ready to see what science is all about!
