Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our school is a place where every one is someone special. The theme for this school year is, “We are all different fish, but at we all swim together.” Our school is organized and designed to facilitate and enable “teachers to teach and students to learn.” The efforts of the staff to create a climate for learning are reflected in the accomplishments and achievements of our students. Our vision states:
Our school is dedicated to developing and nurturing the whole child in a safe and respectful learning environment.
Our school has 589 students, many of whom come from bilingual households and receive free or reduced price lunch. Most of our students walk to school. The parents, teachers, and community are involved in each child’s schooling and want their children to succeed.
My Project
Think back to when you had Physical Education in school. Do you remember wondering what you were going to do for the day as you entered the gymnasium? Imagine you entered the gym and saw scooters laying out on the gym floor. Best day ever, right? For kids, the excitement of the scooter is like having your birthday and Christmas on the same day.
However, we had to borrow the scooters from another school site.
The excitement level was slightly diminished upon learning they were borrowed. The teachers and the students were super bummed that the scooters were not theirs to keep! I told them with Donors Choose, we could make that happen!
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
