My students need 5 trikes/scooters and 2 wagons to build their large motor skills to improve the quality of their recess time. These will give them more options for outside play.
Play is our brain's favorite way of learning. Research shows that brain connections are made through concrete experiences using all of the senses. As teachers we focus on whole child development. We have the academic support to enhance learning, but need materials to foster physical development.
Our students come from diverse backgrounds.
We have a wide range of culturally and economically diverse families. Although many of our students are academically enriched, many still need social interaction and physical exercise on a daily basis. At our school, it is unfortunate that physical education is not provided for our Kindergarten students. These donated playground items will help our students grow and meet the physical educational goals we set for them. These materials are developmentally appropriate for our students.
My Project
The kindergarten students will use these materials on a daily basis during recess times and for structured physical play activities. These materials will help students learn skills such as turn-taking, following directions, sharing, and learning to play with friends. My students need trikes/scooters and wagons to build their large motor skills to improve the quality of their recess time. These will give them more options for outside play.
Students will have more access to bikes, wagons, and scooters during their recess time.
Currently we have 120 Kindergarten students sharing 3 bikes during recess. It will be important for students to have the ability to play hard outside after working so hard in the classroom.
