My Students
I am a physical education teacher at college prep middle school, whose mission is to prepare students with the academic skills and character traits necessary to thrive in college and in life. My class allows scholars the opportunity to engage in physical activities so that they can return to the academic setting refreshed and ready to focus. During class, my students are able to acquire new skills, try new sports, and discover that physical activity is fun. I have the privilege of educating over 400, 5th-8th grade scholars who come from educationally under-served communities in and around St. Louis, Missouri. My students love to be active and deserve access to a high-quality physical education experience.
My Project
Scooters are a staple in any PE program. Whenever students talk to us about our activities for the year, the topic of scooters always comes up. When parents talk about their PE experience with us, they always ask if we do the scooters with our students. Unfortunately, I have to tell them that we do not have any scooters in our program. Scooters are not only fun, they are an exciting way to get exercise during games and activities. The look on students' faces when they see that they get to use scooters to fly around the gym is amazing and exciting to see!
The scooters in this project will help our students develop balance, core strength and stability, as well as motor skill development while having fun scooting around the gym!
