My Project

I'm the new PE and health teacher at a school on the Southside of Chicago where the students haven't had PE for the past 5 years! The principal recognizes the importance of physical fitness and brought me on board this year. Unfortunately, I walked into a closet of old, outdated, and broken equipment. Our students deserve better!

I started looking for something that would be fun to motivate them and to show them that fitness can be enjoyable, and goes way beyond what they can imagine.

I was also looking for something that could be used with all our grade levels since I teach PK-8, and would be safe and fun for all. Enter: SCOOTERS! Specifically, sit-on scooters. I'm slowly trying to build up supplies out of my own pocket, but can't afford scooters for our students since we have class sizes that vary between 14-30.

We will be able to use these in a variety of games and competitions, both with and without balls, and the great part about them is that our students with physical disabilities and motor issues can also participate because they aren't having to worry about standing and balancing on traditional scooters, and we will use short baskets, instead of regular basketball hoops. As you can see from the class photo, we're making do with what we have, but I would love for the children to feel loved and valued with some new equipment!
