Scissors and Glue Sticks and...Oh My!

My students need more glue and better scissors to continue with our Math Notebooks each day. I never dreamed we would go through so many glue sticks in a few weeks!

My Students

When you enter my classroom you will see students engaged in their interactive notebooks. Junior High students are cutting with scissors from my elementary teaching days and sharing the glue sticks. Most days we are talking and discussing why something is the way it is in math.

I teach at a rural school with about 500 students.

My building houses 7th and 8th graders who are very energetic and rowdy. My students have a desire to better understand math and grasp the concepts I am teaching each day. I just started teaching junior high this year and my kids keep me on my toes and laughing! They are witty, funny, and catch on fast! I am enjoying my time as a first year junior high educator!

My Project

Each day my students come in and get out their interactive notebooks. I have them cut and paste information and math rules into their notebooks. I have come to the Jr. high from the elementary level. I brought all my supplies up with me, without realizing the little scissors I had wouldn't work so well for these bigger students. My students need bigger scissors that fit their bigger fingers. My students ask every day if there is anyway I could find bigger scissors for them. We also are using glue sticks every day to paste into our notebooks. Again, I am used to having 28-30 students using the glue sticks. I now have 120 students EACH DAY, I didn't realize how much glue they would use in one day! I bought some at the beginning of the school year (4 weeks ago) and it is already all used up! Each day about 5 of my glue sticks are making their way to the trash can due to running out. We really need more to make it through the rest of the year!

My project is making a difference in class right now for my students.

They love using the notebooks each day! Several of them have mentioned to me how useful they are when they do their homework or take a quiz. Please help us continue our notebooking project through May!
