This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My preschool students are children who are three to five years of age. My school is in sunny California where children come to school each morning ready to learn and grow! There's never a dull moment in our class. My students are busy bees moving from one interest area to another. They're eager to learn, explore, engage and experiment with the instructional materials and centers I set up for them. My students need instructional materials to engage with to foster their interest in technology, literacy, math, science, art and engineering. They also, need instructional materials to support their social and emotional learning, to help them grow into well rounded individuals. Every single one of my students deserves a fair chance at having his or her potential nurtured and fully developed. My little ones have an insatiable curiosity, that's why it's important for me to have a class with a variety of instructional materials to meet their educational needs.

My Project

My students need the Kwik Stix to engage in scientific observational drawings. With the Kwik Stix my students will have the opportunity to draw what they see, such as flowers, the sky , plants, fruit, trees, bugs, animals and basically anything in their environment. This will support my student's writing, drawing and eye hand coordination skills. My students will also, be given the opportunity to draw from their imagination or to make abstract art, fostering their creativity and imaginations skills. These drawing activities will support my student's cognitive development. The children will learn the name of colors, shapes, and things in their environment. Giving them the opportunity to describe their drawings will further support their language and communication skills. My students also need the Fuji film to take pictures of their investigations to support their retention of their scientific studies. Intermixing science and the art of drawing is a great way to support STEAM integration in the preschool setting.
