Scientific Collaboration

My Students

Scientists have become the bearers of the torch of discovery in our quest for knowledge. ~Stephen Hawkings. My students will cement their science knowledge by working together to communicate findings with others.

My school has 50% low socio-economic status.

Half of the students do not have access to technology in the homes, and therefore need computer access during the school day. We are in a fast paced urban community. Volunteers and businesses have created several gardens that we are using to practice the scientific method and creation of charts and diagrams. Students are involved in composting leftover apple cores from lunch and are asking questions and making predictions. A garden group has been created on Edmodo to share scientific observations and created documents, but we need computer access to do so.

My Project

Using Chromebooks, the students will collaborate through Google docs and Edmodo their understanding of science experiments. They will learn to accurately explain science observations using appropriate vocabulary and grammar. Students will share photographs of scientific tools, safety, and supplies as well as sequence of events over time.

If this project is funded, all students will have a turn during the school day to use technology to showcase science learning.

Students will collaborate their findings in small groups because of group access to computers. Vocabulary will be practiced and adopted with rigorous and relevant activities.
