My students need hands-on equipment to explore the nuances of circuitry. These materials will help them explore the intersections of art and science by allowing them to design their own parallel and series circuits.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My scholars attend an intentionally diverse community school in Cumberland, RI. This means that each day they are surrounded by students that look, live and learn differently than they do. As a result, my students thrive in a culture of acceptance that celebrates each individual's differences and unique experiences.
The collaborative nature of my school encourages scholars to seek creative solutions to real world problems with diligence, perseverance, and enthusiasm.
At my school, high standards are the norm. Teachers relentlessly challenge students to think critically and build connections across subjects in order to be prepared for a fast-paced, interdependent world.
My Project
This project is intended to inspire my students to pursue STEM endeavors as they advance in their educational careers. Providing my students with the opportunity to construct their own circuits will empower them to take risks, and use trial and error to navigate the learning process. The goal of this project is to integrate STEM and art--allowing students to draw parallel and series designs, funneling their own creativity. Doing so with conductive ink and paper will allow students to draw functioning circuits, and observe how they transfer energy differently. The bulb holders, light bulbs, and cell batteries will allow each student to connect a complete circuit of their own--allowing them to illuminate their art.
Designing and constructing art-inspired circuits will enable my students to take ownership of their learning, and collaborate to put their skill sets to use.
This will make a difference in their learning because circuitry is usually an abstract concept, but these materials will make the unit more engaging and accessible for all of my students.
