This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach at a dual language charter school in the South Bronx. My scholars challenge themselves daily in all content areas in both English and Spanish. This year I have the privilege of working in an all girls school. The most important part of working in an all girls school is that I can teach these young ladies the potential and power in being a girl. The school culture places importance on academic achievement and the arts. The schools provides these young ladies with the opportunity to take dancing lessons in which they explore diverse genres of music and dance. Also, the young girls learn how to play the violin. Yes, the violin! The schools values the arts. They understand there is a strong connection between academic success to music and the arts.

My Project

These materials would allow students to grow diverse sorts of seeds in order to observe how their stages of growth. Also, the students would be able to compare the seeds growth to the growth of animals and humans.

Plants, skeletons, crayfish and snails oh my!

The students would observed preserved crayfish and grow their own snails! They would track their observations on their science journal. Then they will compare and contrast the stages of growth of plants, animals, and humans. It's science lessons coming to life right in front of their eyes ...through hands on experiments. The ability to learn about diverse organisms will help scholars appreciate all living things especially animals.
