My students need science materials such as droppers and magnifying glasses. They also need to be able to watch animals change and grow with their own eyes. Therefore, we are also requesting tadpoles, ladybugs, and caterpillars.
FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Hughes's classroom raised $205

My Students
I teach in an extremely low income/high poverty rural community where 100% of our students receive free breakfast and lunch. Our school also runs a weekend backpack food program for our families that need help making it through the weekend.
Despite the challenges that they face outside of the classroom, my students are eager to explore our world and learn about new ideas that they have never heard of anywhere else.
They are motivated, spunky, and creative problems solvers. They love to read new books and magazines about real places, people, and things that are outside of their small community. They have oohed and ahhed over simple Google searches for pictures of the Northern Lights, and other topics that we've learned about and continue to ask for more time to explore these topics.
My Project
These materials will allow students to do more than just read about science. In the words of the famous and well-loved science teacher Ms. Frizzle, "Its time to get messy"! With the materials in this project, students will be able to become scientists by observing the ways that caterpillars, ladybugs, and tadpoles change and grow. They will be able to witness the wonder of nature up close and personal with the help of magnifying lenses. The magnifying glasses along with droppers will also be used throughout the year as we study life cycles, rocks, and matter. These materials will open up a world of amazement for my students and inspire them to observe the world that is all around them.
