Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

About My Students

Although many of my students were eager to lead this project, Jahzara and Anthony have been selected to lead and represent the student body. Our Goal: To increase the amount of science equipment so that we can better achieve STEM standards and be college and career ready!

After our first project was funded, my students were overwhelmed with excitement. They were shocked to know that individual donors took an interest in their education and provided them with such amazing science equipment! I encouraged students to take an active role in generating their own grant proposal on DonorsChoose.org so that we could possibly receive new tables to make STEM research and collaboration more productive.

The desks will be used for daily collaboration projects and tasks. It is very important that my students use class time to work collaboratively and learn the skills necessary to succeed in high school and college. Our current desks are very small for our students and often times their legs don’t fit under the desk and they sit uncomfortably.

In Their Own Words

The 7th grade is in need of desks, that will help us to be more successful in science this year. This year we have outgrown the desks. Many of us have grown and are too big for the smaller 6th Grade desks. Because we don't properly fit in the desks, we are more distracted from learning. Very simply, we are uncomfortable. Also, some of the desks have been breaking. To fix them we must take time away from our learning. We hope we can get brand new desks to benefit our learning, not just for this year, but for students of future years as well.

When we receive the desks, we will help to set them up and we will need to contact the janitors to remove the old desks. It is truly appreciated for you to be looking at our school's needs and we hope that soon these desks will be fit for all of the 7th graders at our school.

When receiving these desks that will be very helpful to our school community, we will use them to fit the students' needs. These desks will make learning easier as they can form different groups for us to work in collaboratively, while the desks that we have now prevent the students from forming different groups in a quick and efficient way. Not only will the desks be easier for the teacher to move, but they will also allow students to be ready to work at all times in a comfortable position. The teacher looks forward to seeing the students in the 7th grade excited to learn.
