Science Students Learn Through Personal Experiences
My students need a telescope in order to view, first hand, the objects in space we study in the astronomy unit.
FULLY FUNDED! Mr. Blas's classroom raised $956

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Studying the stars and planets lacks when students are not looking directly at these objects. We will use this telescope to observe the stars, planets, and other objects in space, and make astronomy personal to students.
My students are curious high schoolers.
Mostly of Latino and African American ethnicities, we don't have a lot of science resources to present science properly. Science for my students is not personal enough. Yes we have books; however, our books tell little about the world in which my students live.
My Project
Most of my students have never seen a telescope, much less looked through one. There is a lot to discover through a good telescope, and perhaps with this telescope we can begin grooming the next astrophysicists. When students learn to use a quality telescope, that's the time when their imaginations are ignited. Their universe becomes more than just their school and home.
The sciences are not adequately represented by students of color.
If you were to tour a top science university, Latinos and African Americans are few. By inspiring young under-represented teenagers to explore the earth, we may inspire a youngster to become the next Neil deGrasse Tyson.
