Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Science is major part of a first grade education. It is the critical time when curiosity leads to an abundance of exploration, questioning, investigation, and concept development. Young children need this natural disposition to be nurtured, guided, and celebrated.
My class is made up of amazing, motivated, and diligent first graders with great pride in their efforts and accomplishments.
They attend school every day with purpose and a desire to learn something new. They attend a community school with a dedicated science laboratory that needs updated resources in order to continue supporting student interest, growth, and success in science education.
My Project
These science materials will further motivate, inspire, and provide access to an incredibly important academic area in education. They will support student’s curiosity and critical thinking skills. They will enhance the exploration, experimentation, and scientific processes. It will also support critical groundwork for learning to work in collaborative teams to pose questions, investigate, discover and report findings. The hand lenses will provide students with opportunities to be more critically observant of what they see and how they are able to articulate their discoveries. The computer connected zoom scope will allow them to demonstrate and articulate their findings to their peers using technology. The interactive CD ROMs will provide additional opportunities to interact with science vocabulary, images, processes, and concepts while focusing on National and State science standards for first grade.
“Equipped with his five senses, man explores the universe around him and calls the adventure Science”.
~Edwin Powell Hubble, the Nature of Science, 1954
Please consider supporting the enthusiastic learners in my classroom who anxiously await more opportunities to learn about the universe around them. These science resources will allow my first graders to enjoy and develop their curiosity while developing critical thinking skills through science education.
