This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a classroom teacher in an all-Kindergarten school with 22 teachers and 410+ students. Approximately 70% of our children receive free or reduced lunches. Around 40% of our student population is comprised of students with no or limited English. We are a Title I School.
With a huge emphasis on Literacy, with a focus on language & vocabulary, I want to be sure that Science still gets the time and emphasis that is needed there as well. My students need centers and games that will excite and engage them. Free exploration is key and these materials will provide that for my students.
I am writing this proposal for a Sink/Float Exploration kit that I've seen utilized at school by fellow teachers, Science Folder Game Library, and Explore & Discover Science Centers. With the sink & float kit, children will record their predictions on a chart, perform the activities, and then confirm predictions. The Science Folder Game Library has 16 games that children can play independently. The folders are organized to where the children can easily access them and return them to their storage box with ease. The Explore & Discover Science Centers will allow the children to explore these ready-to-use centers. The topics covered are three of my (and my students) favorites: Plants, Sea Life, and Bugs! We didn't have neat things like this when I was in school for sure.
By funding this grant, you will provide my students with exciting, hands-on science activities. These materials are not consumable, so they can be used for many years.
