My Students
Have you ever sat down and tried to read a science textbook? If so, you may have walked away a little bit confused. My students need something to read that will help them understand what they are learning in science.
I teach in a low income school.
Most of our students receive free or reduced price lunch and are unable to afford even the most basic school supplies. We have a high population of English Language Learners, Learning Disabled self-contained students, and resource room students. I have students who have the desire to learn but do not have the materials. Many of them have very few life experiences, outside of school, to connect to their learning.
My Project
The science books I am requesting will enhance the topics we are covering in class. They will give my students more background information that can assist them with our classroom experiments. These books will also benefit my students who are naturally curious about science and always wanting to learn more! What better way to hook my students into science than with the use of picture books?
Reading is an important element in life!
Having these science books in our classroom will not only encourage literacy but will assist my students in developing a love of science. Who knows, these science books could encourage or motivate one of my students to become the next Albert Einstein.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
