Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach at an income-based full-day preschool program in AZ. My classroom is filled with a diverse group of students including many cultures and languages and we use those differences to learn and grow from each other every day. Through the eyes of each of my students, I can see the future, and I am here to tell you, our future looks bright!
Our preschoolers are coming to school to learn academics such as ABCs and 123s but we are also building a foundation for who they might become in the future, embracing play-based learning to foster career readiness through the exploration of materials such as engineering in the block area and social-emotional play.
My Project
We are working to increase opportunities for our students to explore science concepts such as color mixing, magnets, animal habitats, and more both inside and outside the classroom each day but want to ensure that we are doing so in purposeful ways.
These materials will allow us to enhance the existing centers set up both during our free play center time and our outdoor free play time to ensure that when students are exploring these concepts, they have high quality, intentional materials geared towards teaching things like what color do you get when you mix red and blue using colored water?
Or does a magnet stick to a tree? Students will be able to explore both their indoor and outdoor environment using these materials.
