My Students

My students come to school because everyday is a day to become a better person.

My students are 5 and 6 year olds who are very eager to learn.

Most of them come from a low income family with only one parent who is struggling to hold the family together. They struggle academically, have emotional and social challenges, and many suffer from family issues that's out of there control. They live in a neighborhood where two-thirds of family household income is below the federal poverty threshold and resources are not available for them.

My Project

The Scholastic magazines will serve as a resource to take home and continue to learn about different science stuff. They can use these magazines as a way to share ideas and concepts with their families, as well as reinforce skills learned in the classroom.

The flip charts will help students when deciding what materials from home they can bring for projects.

The hands-on materials, earth and environment theme box, house building center, specimens sorting center, and vehicle building center, will help the students grasp the basic math and science concepts they need in order for being successful. These materials can be duplicated at home as well so that the students are using their knowledge from class.

All the materials selected focus on basic math skills like measurement, data, number sense, etc. The science materials will help students learn basic facts about forces and interactions, Interdependent Relationships in Ecosystems, Weather and Climate, and Engineering Design as well as making projects at home.
