Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are determined to succeed at any task presented to them. They love to help out in the classroom. They are learning how to advocate for themselves.
My students see a need for better science reference books.
Our school library is limited and I borrow books from the public library. It would be nice to own a few books for reference in the science classroom. My students do a lot of research online, but to hold a book and study the photographs helps to make connections to what they see in real life.
My Project
My school library doesn't have a large collection of books, especially in science. Our non-fiction books in science are printed in the 50s, 60s, and 70s. In these books, the pictures are usually small. The guidebooks are difficult to use in black and white. The non-fiction science books that we have in our school library, do not hold the attention of my students. When I borrow books from the public library to share, my students can't put the books down. I would like to have books that will hold student interest and keep them reading in my classroom.
On this list are a few student-friendly reference materials for a science class library.
Students can look at the colorful pictures and connect what they are reading about to the science concepts they are learning about in the classroom.
