This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are from a variety of backgrounds. They come to school with excitement and are future-minded as the Class of 2027. They are eager to learn, understand that mistakes are learning opportunities, and they persevere when faced with academic struggles.
The students love nonfiction text and learning about real situations and problems in the world they might solve, they are 21st-century learners, and my resources range from low to high-tech.
They are excited to see what books I bring from my local library and enjoy a book in hand, as well as using digital resources.
My Project
I am using the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) as a guide for instruction. I have science kits at my school and am creative, but I would love to have nonfiction that closely aligns to today's standards.
Students will enjoy new Science Readers each month, including digital resources and investigations to achieve needed Science Standards and prepare them for their futures.
The magazine has engaging and relevant articles about physical, earth, life science, and engineering practices. There are experiments that are needed for today's learners. At my school, we are creating a dedicated science lab as a hands-on teaching space.
Each student will receive their own magazine issues for the year. I will be teaching all areas of science. STEM activities, often engaging, could inspire students consider STEM careers.
