My students need 30 subscriptions to Science World in order to increase their literacy skills.
FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Reich's classroom raised $400

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
With the Common Core standards and high-stake testing facing my students, they work hard to succeed, but often do not have the resources to learn many of these valuable skills.
My students are from low-income communities in the New York who travel as far as 1.5 hours to attend my school, which is focused on the arts and theater.
They are a dynamic group of students who face many obstacles. Yet, I am impressed every day by the dedication and hard work that many of my students bring to the classroom.
My Project
These Science World magazines will allow my students to increase their literacy skills while learning about fascinating and interesting advances in the sciences. Many of my students lack the skills necessary to comprehend informational texts. These magazines will give them an engaging way to interact with informational texts, increasing the literacy skills that will help them in all of their classes.
Consistent exposure to these informational texts will give my students the confidence that they need to tackle even more difficult texts.
It will also be a great way to introduce more literacy into the science curriculum.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
