Science - Plant the Seed

My students need books, plant cells and a globe to enhance our plant unit. We will study plants around the globe, then North American plants and then plant native wildflowers of our own.

My Students

Many of my students don't have the experiences working with plants and taking care and nurturing something. I want them to experience the thrill of planting a seed and watching it grow, and then deciding where to plant the seedling.

We are a small, rural school in Minnesota with less and less students coming from farming families.

Many families don't have gardens anymore, so students have little experience with the planting process. Planting is an important part of this area's history.

My Project

These resources will help make meaningful connections for my students. We won't be talking about plants far away, we'll be talking about plants that they may see in their own backyard and the plant that they are responsible for keeping healthy. It will lead us into discussions about personal health and responsibility.

These resources will help excite my students about scientific discovery and plants.

It may inspire future environmentalists or botanists! Students love to work with their hands and doesn't every kid love dirt?
