Science of Reading: Creating Readers for a Lifetime

Help me give my students books that they can decode through learning various phonics skills. These books will help give my students confidence and strength in their reading.

My Project

My students are learning to love to read, which is tough when most of what they've been reading is predictable reading texts. This means they are cued to look at the pictures and guess the words by looking at the first letter in the words. This year, however, they have been introduced to the world of systematic phonics instruction and the wonderful world of decodable readers.

Through reading decodable books, I have seen my students' confidence in their reading and their love of books increase because they can actually use what they have learned during our phonics lessons to read what is in the books.

The more decodable readers I can put in front of my students to get them excited about reading and to help strengthen their understanding of how words work, the better I am able to do my job.
