Science Observation Tools Needed to Implement NGSS Standards in Class
Help me give my students the tools they need to do the hands-on work of a Scientist in class, including magnifying glasses, thermometers to record temperature, and magnets to understand push and pull in NGSS standards.

My Project
My 4th and 5th grade students are currently studying Earth Science and Climate Change. However, we lack the scientific tools to gather and record data such as thermometers and magnifying glasses. We are currently studying the three states of matter such as solids, liquids, and gas. The tools needed are standard science tools such as magnifying glasses, thermometers, and magnets.
We are learning how temperature affects all three states of matter on our planet.
The goals for this project are to give students hands-on experience doing observations and labs to address NGSS standards and help prepare them for middle school. This project is special because many teachers in 4th and 5th grade do not teach science. It is my goal to address the NGSS standards, Science and Engineering Practices, and Cross Cutting Concepts. I am also attaching literacy to each observation. It is my personal goal to expose them to as much Science as possible and help give them hands-on experience to prepare them for middle school and beyond. The goals for our project are to help students learn grade-level NGSS standards and do the work of a real scientist. My students are special because they are all from military families. The majority of them have parents in the Marines or Navy. The supplies will help students connect with their families. Many of them do engineering on aircraft carriers and airplanes. The supplies will make a difference in their observations by helping them get closer looks at objects and understand how magnetic principles of cause and effect work.
