Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach seventh-grade students in a high needs, inner-city setting. Our school is extremely diverse, with nearly fifty percent living below the poverty line and seventy percent receiving free or reduced-price lunch services. In my class, I have students that are either living below the poverty line or teeter slightly above it.

My students are incredibly curious, innovative, and creative.

They learn best when they are exposed to hands-on experiential learning and when they can apply the knowledge they've learned in class to a real-life situation.

My Project

This project will fully enable students to take interactive notebooks during science class. With COVID, students lost over a year of effective note-taking practice. My project is to encourage my students to be independent, critical thinkers, writers, and artists through the use of interactive notebooks. The interactive notebooks combine teacher-guided note taking and instruction and allow the student to express their understanding of the concepts in the notebooks. Using these interactive notebooks will help students have a more in-depth understanding of the science content, and prepare them to be successful note-takers in high school and college.

After using Chromebooks and iPads for over a year and a half, students are ready to have hands-on learning, where they are not just staring at a screen.

Students will use stickers to decorate their interactive notebooks and make them their own. Other materials will help to supplement materials needed in the daily classroom for implementing the notebooks daily!
