Science, Math, and Reading, Oh My!!

Help me give my students a richer educational experience. This vacuum cleaner, tablets, and educational tools will engage students in Science, Math, and Reading through play, exploration, and observation.

My Project

We all learn best when we are enjoying what we are doing. Play, exploration, and observation are natural ways to learn and exactly what first graders need. The items I have selected in my project will give students opportunities to do just that, play, explore, and observe while learning science, math, and reading.

First graders will use the writing boards to learn about sounds and how they work, how they grow from single sounds into blends, and finally into syllables and words.

They will use word blocks to create word families and phrases, and build sentences.

The hydroponics fish tank will not only be amazing to look at, but students will learn how to care for and grow plants in an aquatic environment, the relationship between plants and fish while they are sharing one habitat, and how to care for a class pet.

The hundreds chart puzzles and pop-its will help students with understanding place value, patterns, and counting skills in an interactive way. The games will teach them strategy and spatial awareness, spark more confidence, and test their critical thinking skills.

The vacuum cleaner- Sometimes learning can get messy. Students will be able to clean up after themselves and their friends, ensuring a clean area to work and learn in, but also giving students ownership of our classroom.

Overall, I have selected these items knowing that children are more motivated to learn, pay attention, and engage in learning while playing games and exploring/interacting with their environment. Adding these items to our classroom will not only encourage children to take ownership of their learning, but teach them how to work together as a team.
