Science: Magnified Exploration Center

My students need a magnification center, bessbug habitat and mineral study kit in order to advance their interest in exploring the world around them.

My Students

Do you remember growing up in an era when you were ushered out the door by your parents each summer morning to explore the world around you? Growing up in a small town myself, I remember those days. At present day in an inner city that is not often an opportunity children have.

My students attend a public school in an inner city of Virginia.

The school is designated a Title I school based on the high number of children receiving a free or reduced price lunch. These amazing children are eager to come to school each day, ready to soak up vast amounts of knowledge. They are kind, honest, respectful and intelligent. Their smiles brighten each day.

My Project

With the resources that will make up our magnification center, students will be able to explore on a whole new level. The microslides will provide an opportunity to look at objects in a way the students have never seen before. The magnifying glasses, rocks, minerals and bugs will allow students to observe their world in an exciting, new way. Students will also be able to take the magnifying glasses outside to explore our gardens and the school grounds as a whole.

Having the opportunity to explore in these ways will inspire a greater interest in the exploration of the world as a whole.

Though this is a science based center, the impact will be cross curricular as students realize just how much information there is out there waiting to be discovered.
