This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our school is located in the Bronx, New York. Our staff and students have carved a learning family into our small, self contained school that serves a special population of students. Each of our students has an IEP, (Individualized Education Program) that delineates specific goals and avenues needed to help each child achieve academic and social success. Our school is self contained because each student is classified as emotional disturbance; so learning to recognize, and express everyday emotions can be a struggle for our children.

One of my favorite quotes is "Children learn what they feel is important from people who feel they are important;" my children are very important to me.

One of the ways that I show them that is through my teaching. As you can imagine ADHD is a hurdle that many of my children must climb everyday. Technology is a way to differentiate my instruction and shake up information into new and exciting formats. After all, my children need to be science literate to be proactive citizens in today's society.

My Project

With these new iPads my children will be able to access the apps that computers can't. Augmented reality and virtual trips in the classroom are a component that the iPad can bring to my classroom. These cutting edge educational resources are making their way into BrainPop, Microsoft resources and so many others.

On the first of March I attended a workshop and was mesmerized by Microsoft Expeditions on an iPad; as always my children were on my mind.

iPads and new apps featuring augmented reality and virtual field trips could change the way my children see science content. Inside the human body.....take a walk among the stars..... I find myself - a traveled woman - holding my breath! Imagine my children, many of whom tell me they cannot even go outside because it is too dangerous. My heart breaks. Please help me share the world with them.
