This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

These science materials will help to enhance student-centered and hands-on science activities and labs in my classroom. I always strive to create fun and engaging ways for students to learn in my class so that they can better connect to the rigorous science content they are learning. My goal for students is to strengthen their scientific literacy skills, grasp important scientific concepts and see themselves as scientists by immersing themselves in STEM labs and activities.

Despite the many challenges students have faced during distance learning and attending school during a pandemic, students continue to come to class ready to learn.

Their positivity, vulnerability, and silliness help to create a positive learning community during an extremely difficult time.

The plastic bins will help to store science supplies in an organized way that is easily accessible to students. The light lamps and stopwatches will allow students to design their own photosynthesis experiments. The electric water heater will allow students to conduct the pineapple enzyme lab and DNA extraction lab in a safe way. Learning resources such as microscope slides and the molecules kits will help students to grasp difficult scientific concepts.

From exploring enzymes in pineapples to STEM challenges to extracting DNA from strawberries, these are a just few of the fun activities students will be able to do this year with your support.
