I teach science and social studies to students with autism spectrum disorders in kindergarten through third grade. My students love their science period and look forward to coming into my class.
We are studying life science, physical science, and earth science. We will be finishing the year with an across-the-grades habitat study, which will incorporate all three of the subject areas we have been looking at throughout the school year.
I am requesting funding for materials that would help bring my students closer to this end-of-the-year goal. These are science kits and games--such as a weather station, a magnet kit, and a collection of fossils--that will appeal to students in this age group. I have chosen items that are either visual or hands-on so that my students can see and experience the concepts I am teaching. The majority of the materials could be used in various ways in each grade.
