Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our school is a smaller school for our area filled with great kids that are willing and ready to learn! My students are from various backgrounds and they each bring unique qualities to our classroom! Everyone is different, but they work together extremely well and enjoy collaborating on group projects and activities. They are full of energy and love to move around and do active things like play sports or dance. They are constantly smiling and always chatting with each other!
My Project
These materials will help bring life to a project where Science and English meet! Our students will be creating science journals by researching native plants and animals from Florida. Then, using the printer and copy paper that we have requested, they will be able to print pictures and facts they have accumulated and place those into their amazing new composition notebooks.
During the research phase, students will also journal in the notebooks using the requested pens.
They will discuss important concepts that they already know and will pose new questions about what they want to learn.
Next, students will receive hands-on experience in our garden area by choosing and planting native fruit and vegetable plants. Students will utilize the requested colored pencils and markers to create blueprints of their ideal garden space. After that is completed, they will go out into our school garden and plant their chosen plants!
Once the garden is completed, students will be able to journal using their composition notebooks. They will record data, provide qualitative feedback and then reflect on the experience. This project not only creates a bridge between STEM and English but it will also create long lasting memories for these students!
