Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are visual learners. Science is also visual and is best absorbed through color diagrams, guides and visual imagery. My students need a solid color printer that can support active classroom learning and their personal tech growth in preparation for college.

My students are phenomenal.

They are unique, funny, some serious, some not so much, some sleep want to sleep in class! :-) . They all bring something to the table and they are all curious to learn in their own way. 90% of my students are Latino, and the same number receives free lunch. They ask lots of questions and with class size over 30, I need all the visual help I can get to get their attention, excite their interest and captivate their interests all in the pursuit of teaching and learning biology.

My Project

Science comes alive in color. I cannot imagine teaching biology and not showing my students the grand imagery and conceptual knowledge that is expected of them to learn in black and white. At the moment, if we need materials such as dissection guides, pictures for projects and brochures, diagrams of various concepts such as photosynthesis or genetics, we use our old Hp ink jet. It breaks down often, it is SLOW and most of all, we go through lots and lots of cartridges in a year, all of which are expensive and require strict recycling. They do not last and with a class of 25+ kids, printing just one page per child, it takes forever.

Having access to current, relevant and utilitarian technology is key to any classroom today.

Even more so, the students' success in learning new scientific concepts depends on this investment that is commonly found in a college classroom or in a college computer lab. Not only will this tool allow students to learn NOW and flourish through its possibilities for fast color printing, but is exposes them to the technology that they will be using for years to come as college students.
