My Students

My students are explorers. Instead of the average lecture style classroom, my students are discovering new things every day on their own! We use hands-on lab materials and manipulatives to bring science to life in our classroom!

My school is in a rural Virginia town.

We educate close to 1,000 students in our entire school from 6th to 8th grade. Our students come from a variety of socioeconomic backgrounds and cultures. Our school is very diverse and open to new teaching methods. We are shifting away from traditional teaching and going towards a student led teaching method so they can explore and discover on their own.

My Project

My students need a Chromebook and Learning Resources Talk Blocks to discover the world as a scientist. My students will use the Talk Blocks to listen to lab investigation questions, CSI crime-scene notes, and to record mini-presentations for the class. The Chromebook will be used for interactive Web-Quests, research, and interactive lab activities.

Many of my students cannot afford technology in their homes.

By being able to provide my students with technology in the classroom, we are opening doors for them that would otherwise be closed. Students can guide their own learning, at their own pace, instead of trying to keep up with the rest of the class, or slow down for the rest of the class.
