My Students

I teach 4 sixth grade classes comprised of 120 hard working students, the majority of whom come from single parent, high poverty households and receive free or reduced price lunch. Our school serves students in grades 6-8 and features leveled academics, great teachers, and a positive learning environment. We are a newly devised STEM school in an old building. We have set out to devise a structured learning environment which promotes academics excellence and growth.

As a teacher in a low-income/high-poverty school district, exposure for these students has been limited due to their environment and family situations.

I have the desire to get students excited to explore the world of science and to learn about the world around them, and this can be done through projects, interactive technology and reading. My students need to expand their capacity for critical thinking because their environment does not enable them to do it. I want them to take pride in their efforts and be willing to challenge their minds for the sake of great success.

My Project

The materials and supplies that I am requesting for my students will make a huge impact. I know how the materials will be used for each student and the learning concepts that will be learned. We just need your help in getting everything for their academic success. The Time magazines will be used for a reading/writing center and in class group assignments. The headphones will be placed on the shelves in the back of our classroom or at a listening center for EC/ESL students. The headphones will also allow students to use their electronic devices such as an iPad or Chromebook for interactive assignments, videos and taking online assessments.

The donations to this project will help to improve my students' understanding of science in the areas of individual projects, group work and competency in reading and understanding informational text.

We will use these materials to aide us in the process of becoming life-long writers. As the teacher, I have high expectations of my students and I really need your help to turn students into science STEM scholars. Thanks!
