Science Inquiry Ignites the Library!

My students need science supplies, like rock samples and K'Nex equipment, and books for science research in the library.

My Students

Library research comes to life when you can investigate real rocks, build new structures, and read new books.

My students come from diverse cultures and speak a variety of different languages.

The majority of the students face economic challenges, and frequently move from place to place. I love to see their smiling faces in the library before the start of school. I frequently see older children helping the younger children select books or even take the time to read to a beginning reader. The students help to create a strong community in their neighborhood.

My Project

Students in the upper grades participate in a month long research project in the library. Third grade students will be studying different ecosystems. The new books will be great sources of information. Fourth grade students will participate in a geology research project. The new rock samples will be added to the current collection. Fifth grade students will be studying heredity. The PTC paper is a great way to grab the students' attention. Most students will be able to taste the bitter paper because they have inherited the tasting gene. The bridge building and simple machine kits can be checked out for classroom use. In addition, the library is a great space to explore building before school and after school.

New books and "hands-on" science materials will encourage science inquiry.

By adding materials to the library, all students in the school benefit from the resources. The library is open to all students in the morning before school. The building and simple machine kits are activities that offer the opportunity for different age children to work together on a project.
