This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
"Science is my favorite class," is what I hear many students say in middle school. Science is a great opportunity for students to get hands on learning and practice their STEM skills. However, 7th grade science can be difficult for many of my students whom English is not their first language. The high vocabulary demands can be challenging and so any help we can get is great.
We can't always help with the challenges at home but if we can overcome the hurdles in the classroom with interactive lessons and support literacy growth, we can achieve anything.
We do silly hand and body movements to learn vocabulary, we do labs, read and work collaboratively. I just need your help to make sure we have the materials needed.
My Project
What don't we need? We use several supplies throughout the year and sometimes our students or I, can purchase them or bring some we have in the house already but some items are pricey like disposable gloves, aprons for dissections and specific chemicals like Methylene blue stain which is great for viewing cells under the microscope and Benedicts solution which is needed for testing for sugars.
Sometimes we work in stations and a media station, where they can work interactively on a laptops, is great.
I also assign homework online, and most students have access to at least a smart phone but some students must come during tutorials to use a device and I could really use 2 more laptops.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
