This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Science captures our imaginations in many ways as much as art does! Science is growing and changing and evolving. Our children will be a part of those changes! I want them to feel how exciting science really is! We read about science, we see science, and we do science in our classroom.

I work at a Title I school with fifth-grade scholars who are predominately English-language learners.

Many of them have big lives and challenges outside of school. They know about going without, sharing, struggling, cooperating, surviving, thriving, and so much more. In our class, we are a family. I teach my students that when others help them, they must pay it forward when they are grown. A donation to our classroom will be a gift toward the future, for I am confident that they will each help another child when they are adults!

My Project

My students need 29 Bill Nye the Science Guy videos to thrive with visual presentations. These science videos help to make the science content more comprehensible to my scholars. Up until last year, I shared a set with a teacher who has since left our school district. I think these videos are critical to my instruction. They bring to life the books we read, and they inspire my students for their science fair projects. All my scholars benefit from watching the videos, taking notes, collaborating with their partners, and critically thinking about science and how it impacts them and their world! For English-language learners, this type of visual presentation is essential to their deeper understanding of the content. These videos help all my students when they are combined with reading about and doing science. They are a powerful learning tool.

These videos make science more accessible to all students, particularly to those who are learning English and/or have never been outside their neighborhood!

These videos bring the world into my classroom! They help my children to imagine themselves solving problems and making their own discoveries one day! As I said, I teach my children to pay it forward. They are an excellent investment!
